Mx5 undertray

Percentage of vote: They weigh shite all, are cheap to buy even new and only take a few mins to refit, bit twatty to run without one IMO. That may be true of a prius but that has a completely flat underside to reduce drag. An MX-5 doesn't and therefore the effect is going to be nowhere near the same.

Poll: Undertray 62 member s have cast votes Do you have an undertray fitted Yes, wouldn't leave home without it 47 votes [ Delbert 23 Sep Always been keen about refitting undertray but I need access to remove the fan which has decided not to run and do an oil service so its going to sit in the garage for a bit is it worth refitting at all?

Clappers 24 Sep Never had one on my 5.

No real intention of getting one either. Gixer 24 Sep Cooling system isn't working properly without one. As niggle said it also throws up all manor of shite into the engine bay. Harty 24 Sep They weigh shite all, are cheap to buy even new and only take a few mins to refit, bit twatty to run without one IMO. LOL - as charming and all inclusive as ever.

One extra thing to remove when you wanna work on the car, one extra scraping noise over speedramps and in the real world, the difference it will make to the cooling system is negligible Took mine off and I'd never put it back on.

Plastic undertray and cooling

On my BMW which was extensively modified everyone moaned at me for removing the wheel arch liners and engine undertray. All sort of "It'll interfere with the airflow" type comments but it was stable all the way up to mph and never once got warm.

Only difference was easier access for little jobs and less places for crud to get caught. Given the sorts of top speeds a Roadster is capable of I really don't see it being an issue and at lower speeds the effect has on the cooling airflow is much reduced anyway.

Guess I'm a bit 'twatty'. Skuzzle 24 Sep all ive ever said to people is fit one if you dont have one, but my little car now only has a small fragment of 1 when the rest ripped itself off. I'm going to put it back and revise the whole system once I get my MS-2 in. I'm of the opinion that it's there for a reason.

Relying on a shite coolant temp sensor that only moves once your head has warped is not exactly the ideal tool for measuring your fluids. I do have metered oil and coolant temp sensors so I can see to the exact degree if something is about to go wrong and correct the issue long before it would even register on the OEM dial. I can't see why you wouldn't tbh. What you need to know about the fourth-generation Miata, the ND, was it was never supposed to get a 2. Mazda engineered the ND to feel as close to the original 1.

Including the engine, which lead Mazda engineers to choose a 1. We don't need a bunch of power, right? Mazda uses that 1.

Eprom 27256

The result, I'm toldspins beautifully to its rpm limiter and suits the lightweight character of the ND perfectly. But Coleman knew 1. In Japan, where traffic is generally slower and less aggressive? Sure, but not here. He strongly advocated for the 2. But, that decision came towards the end of the ND's development, which ended up meaning the big engine didn't get nearly as much finessing as the 1. There isn't anything wrong with the ND Miata's original 2.

But insiders—including Coleman—knew the 1. Mazda put so much work into taking the Miata back to its roots, and the tiny, zingy engine was a huge part of that. So shortly after the ND launched, the engineers went back to the drawing board to give the 2. Mazda brought me out to California to sample the results over two days driving between Pismo Beach and San Francisco, a couple hundred miles on the roads the Miata was created for.

It was a good couple of days. The is the most powerful Miata ever. With hp, it even eclipses the Mazdaspeed, the only Miata to come turbocharged from the factory. This was an accident. We didn't know how much power it was going to make. That wasn't the point. One-hundred eighty-one horsepower is just what you get when you take the powerband of the ND Miata's old 2. Without any timing gear, the extra power makes the car feel noticeably quicker, especially the soft-top, which weighs lbs less than the folding-metal-roof RF.

But I'm not terribly interested in acceleration. Though it's certainly better in this car, the Miata's never been about sheer straight-line speed, and the benefits this engine brings are so much greater than numbers on a stopwatch. Where the previous ND 2.

And it's buttery smooth doing so, thanks to lighter internals, and a stiffer crankshaft. Now, there's a bit of controversy about the redline— Grassroots Motorsports drove a Miata and found it was topping out at rpmwhich was confirmed on a dyno. A Mazda spokesperson later clarified that the car only revs to rpm in aggressive driving conditions—otherwise, it cuts out at rpm. I never noticed it, so I suppose I was driving fairly aggressively.

Some thought this engine felt like an old naturally aspirated Honda engine, but I disagree. Drive an S, and there's a very pronounced step when the cam profile changes; here, the power is totally linear from about idle all the way to redline. In this way, it actually reminds me of an air-cooled Porsche flat-six.

And like an old mill, this engine loves to live near redline—leave it between and rpm and it's perfectly happy. Some of these cookies are essential, while others help us to improve your experience by providing insights into how the site is being used.
